Why we quote fixed.

Why we quote fixed.

Every Mira project is priced up front. No hourly billing. No estimates that quietly grow past the number we agreed on. Here is the reasoning behind fixed pricing, and why we think it is the only honest way for a small studio to charge for the kind of work we do.

What hourly billing actually incentivises

Hourly billing is a broken incentive on both sides of the invoice. The faster the studio works, the less it makes. The more careful the studio is, the more the client pays. Neither party wins. The studio has a quiet reason to slow down. The client has an ongoing reason to worry about scope creep. Neither of those energies is healthy for the actual work.

We have watched this play out at other agencies for years. Projects that should take four weeks stretch to eight because the invoice grows every Friday. Clients start hoarding decisions because every question costs money. The work suffers.

What fixed pricing actually does

Fixed pricing moves the pressure to the outcome, not the clock. The number is agreed up front. If we can ship the same result in half the time, that is our problem to solve, not yours to fund. If a project takes longer than we estimated, that is on us to absorb.

The upside for the client is that they know what they are committing to before anything starts. The upside for the studio is that we are financially motivated to work efficiently, ship on time, and avoid the scope creep spiral that eats agencies alive.

What it costs us

Fixed pricing forces the studio to say no more often. Some projects genuinely do not fit a fixed number. A client who cannot describe what they want. A founder whose scope will obviously double after the first review. A brief that keeps changing shape week to week. Those get turned down. The studio loses a percentage of potential revenue in exchange for keeping the pricing model honest.

Why we hold the line

The alternative is worse. Hourly billing makes the studio a vendor. Fixed pricing makes the studio a partner. We chose the harder model on purpose, and every year we get more convinced we chose right.
